NYC, part 2

Off to visit the oldest child as a solo traveler this time. In the interest of keeping a budget, I decided to stay on the 'Jersey side' at an Airbnb apartment, partly because of new rules that NY had imposed on rentals, and partly because there is more bang for you buck in Jersey. Not to mention that is is only a 30 minute car ride to the airport, which means not having to leave three hours before flight time. It wasn't quite as cost effective as I thought since I learned that the metro ticket is only good one way into Manhattan, and any connecting train is charged for a second time. Therefore instead of roughly a 5 dollar round trip, it could be as high at 10 dollars per there and back.

Unfortunately, I caught a cold just prior to leaving, but I was determined to make the most of my 3 nights there. The first night, and I mean just hours after I got off a plane, we bought last minute tickets to Anastasia. Enjoyable in every way, but that's the Disney way. Straight back 'home' after that. I was tired!

The next day, not exactly moving swiftly, I decided to walk the Highline. It was hot, and bright, and filled with a ton of people, but still very cool to walk along. The end point is Chelsea Market, where I had been through during February with my sister, so didn't need to explore much. Stopped for gelato, which was excellent. So excellent after melting in the sun. Then I needed to run to get to a show.Had a moderately stressful time trying to reach Broadway to see Clive Owen in M. Butterfly. For some reason, I couldn't seem to avoid the express trains this trip and had to figure out quickly which train would stop, or IF it would stop. Phew, I made it!

The show was also excellent, by the way. The acting was superb. So glad I chose to see the show.

We went to the Tap Room afterwards and helped ourselves to a giant shake concoction. Started to fade after that.

The next day, my explorations took me to Greenwich Village. My first time there, and I just loved it. Would I live there? Yes. Cute, old buildings, lots of shopping, that surprisingly did not break any budget rules, and great foodie shops. I did try out my first food tour. I'd have to say it was just OK. I was hoping to hear more neighborhood stories, not how olive oil is made. I will definitely go back to explore on my terms. I tried really, really hard to make this trip about food, but I really don't think I made a dent in my culinary curiosity.

That's it for this trip. I'm so amazed that I've been there 3 times in the past year and feel like I have so much more to see. The neighborhoods are so unique to themselves, I enjoy getting to know each personalities.
